Trappings of Texas is the longest running western art and cowboy gear exhibit and sale in the country. Established in 1985, at the Museum of the Big Bend on the campus of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, Trappings showcases fine western art from paintings, sculpture and drawings to saddles, bits, spurs and more.

The 36th Trappings of Texas opening weekend is a pure celebration of Western art. Thursday, September 15th begins with a Preview Party at the Museum, 5-8 pm, where you will be the first to see the show.
Come back Friday morning, 11am-3pm and hang out on the Museum’s front porch to meet some of the Trappings artists and learn about their craft. Then get ready to come back to the Museum for the best party in West Texas for the Trappings of Texas opening reception, exhibit and sale from 6-9pm.
Saturday, September 17th kicks off with a chuckwagon breakfast starting at 8am. Return to the Museum from 11 am until 3 pm to enjoy artist demonstrations and presentations. Wind down the weekend at the Ranch RoundUp Party from 5pm to 8 pm.
